Recycle and dispose of your computer securely
Is your house cluttered with old computers and tablets that you don’t use or need? The rate of technology progression these days means that most people have many old devices stored in cupboards or drawers at home that haven’t been used in years — and probably won’t be used again.
While these devices might not have any value to you, the media has recently highlighted the benefits of recycling these devices. Many internal computer components are made from valuable elements that the Earth might run out of in the future. Rather than hoarding these old devices at home, recycling them will ensure that the materials can be re-processed.
At Dove Computers we offer a flat rate of £10 for disposal of a computer, printer or monitor and we send all unwanted and unsalvageable devices to be recycled. You can drop your old device down to our office in Ashbourne for disposal.
We also ensure that hard drives are disposed of securely. When getting rid of your computer or laptop, it’s important to ensure that the data is erased and unreachable to protect your files and your identity. For some devices, a factory reset is sufficient to wipe the data, but it’s still better to play it safe and make sure that there is no chance of retrieving the data. At Dove we use the common solution of drilling a hole through a discarded hard drive to ensure that it can never be accessed again.
If you are a business and require additional certification to prove that the hard drive data has been securely erased correctly, we can also do that for you. We will carry out a software data deletion on the hard drive first before drilling through it and issue a certificate to you for your records.
