Every year 125,000 tonnes of computers are disposed of in landfill sites accross Great Britain. This poses a big threat to the environment in the form of groundwater pollution which can be caused by the hazardous components within a pc. Computers contain many toxic substances from mercury to lead and this is why we, as a company try to dispose of our customer's computer equipment in an environmentally friendly way.
Recycling computers and their components
For the reasons outlined above the EU and our Government have put together a directive which is called The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive. This directive will shortly becoming law and will affect us all, from big corporations sown to home users. The directive itself can be found at, www.environment-agency.gov.uk
The WEEE directive covers a wide range of electrical and electronic products, although some are exempt from certain requirements.
To help break down the rulings we have shortlisted the main points under the directive below:
Requires electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) to be marked with a ‘crossed out wheeled bin' symbol
Sets targets for the amount of household WEEE to be separately collected
Requires the UK to establish and maintain a register of EEE producers
Makes distributors and retailers responsible for taking back WEEE free of charge in a convenient way for customers
Requires all separately collected WEEE to be treated
Introduces recycling and recovery targets for various categories of WEEE.
The types of products covered are:
Large and small household appliances
IT and telecommunication equipment
Consumer equipment such as TVs, videos, hi-fi
Lighting, electrical and electronic tools (except large stationary industrial tools)
Toys, leisure and sports equipment
Automatic dispensers
Medical devices (WEEE re-use and recovery targets)
Monitoring and control instruments

Erasing data off old computers
Have you ever thought what happens when you dispose of an old computer yourself? Sometimes the computer will be recycled, but in many instances a computer ends up in a refuse site, leaving your data very vulnerable to criminals. In the event that it is not recycled properly, it may well get donated to a third world country. If this happens, in theory your computer will be turned on by a complete stranger and they will be able to see anything on your old machine. Data files can include anything from old web sites that you have visited, to financial documents. Sometimes in extreme cases, an experienced handler may be able to log onto your online bank account and transfer money, or use that information to purchase items online.
We recognise that this is a growing concern and major problem throughout the world. For this reason we offer a totally secure service of erasing all data from your hard drive and then disposing of it in a safe manner.

Donating components to charities, schools & causes in need
Dove Computer Solutions has already made a plethora of donations to local organisations such as charities, pre-schools, and other worth-while causes. We see both the environmental & educational benefits to the recipients and would like to promote this facet of our business more.
Due to time restraints, the donation process can sometimes be impeded by us finding the time to install windows and set up donated machines. Should you have a resident computer enthusiast who would be prepared to action this, the donation process is usually fairly speedy.
The specs of PCs and equipment does vary and depends on our stock levels at the time. Having said this, we do try to accommodate organisations requests as much as possible.
Should you know of or be a member of any local organisations or worth-while causes who require computer hardware or software, please feel free to call our general enquiries line on 0845 22 605 22 or fill in the form below. We will keep your details on our database and then contact you as soon as we are in a position to supply you with the equipment.
We do ask that a representative of the charity/organisation collects the equipment in person from one of our two offices. Unfortunately we cannot ship or pack computers, and require a simple disclaimer to be signed, with no exceptions. Therefore we cannot give computers to individuals or organisations outside the United Kingdom unless a local contact can collect the computers.
