Case Study 2 – Nigel Davis Solicitors (agricultural firm of solicitors based in Derbyshire)
Dove Computer Solutions worked in partnership with Nigel Davis Solicitors to upgrade their server and workstations to Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 Premium and Windows XP Professional respectively. The client needed the flexibility and freedom to access and backup their information from one central location, along with email access from any workstation or outside of the office using a home computer.
Dove Computer Solutions main objective was to meet the business requirements of the client rather than just promote the technology. We met the business objectives by transferring the client from POP3 and peer to peer networking to a SMTP Exchange email system, along with a robust and secure client/server network. To take advantage of the benefits of Small Business Server 2003, we upgraded the workstations from Windows 98SE to Windows XP Professional, along with Office 2003. This gave the client tools to improve their workflow and productivity, without the penalty of a steep learning curve.
Shortly after the server and workstation upgrades, the client moved to bigger offices nearby. We successfully project managed the move of the hardware within a tight timeline, as well as implementing new cabling for 20 network nodes from the server room to the main office. A wireless access point was also successfully added to the infrastructure to allow laptop and PDA usage with the building.
