Case Study 1 – The Motorsport Industry Association, (non profit organisation promoting UK motorsport interests worldwide)
Dove Computer Solutions were invited to audit the IT infrastructure. The server was old Windows NT technology, along with the workstations, which were Windows 98SE operating systems. We drew up a plan to migrate the data from the server and client workstations, (13 P Cs ) to a new Microsoft Small Business 2003 Premium Server, along with upgrading the workstations to Windows XP Pro. This was actioned during a weekend to minimise downtime and disruption to the end users. All emails, data and user profiles were successfully transferred to the new server, as planned and within budget.
The planned upgrade to the server and workstations was completed with no downtime to the end users and the increased capacity has ensured a smooth transition for the organisation's growth of 13 PCs to 21 PCs within 12 months.
The client has the benefit of accessing their emails from any computer in the office or through Outlook Web Access, using an Internet enabled computer anywhere in the world. This has been of particular benefit to some of the users, who occasionally work from home and access their files and emails using a secure VPN connection to the main office.
Sage Accounts was installed on two workstations and the data was stored on the server for added security and ease of backup.
Dove Computer Solutions have been managing and supporting the IT infrastructure of the Motorsport Industry Association for over six years. During this time we have upgraded workstations, changed backup devices as the organisation has grown and we are currently upgrading their broadband to take advantage of greater capacity to meet their business requirements.
